February 24, 2023, Beijing – SenseTime, a leading global artificial intelligence (AI) software company, recently partnered with the Forbidden City Publishing House to launch a digital art of “Apprentice in the Forbidden City Digital World” that furthers the conservation of China’s cultural heritage through AI innovation. Powered by the SenseMARS software platform, the digital art of “Apprentice in the Forbidden City Digital World” enables immersive Chinese culture appreciation that introduces the spirit of craftmanship and the history of Chinese cultural relics restoration by creating a new digital world experience with AI+AR technologies.
“Exquisite Golden Dragon – Decode of the Traditional Architectural Painting” is the first digital art in the series of “Apprentice in the Forbidden City Digital World.” The digital art reveals the remarkable restoration techniques of color painting in architectural heritage of the Forbidden City. Through the interactions between the physical and digital worlds, the Forbidden City’s Hall of Mental Cultivation is completely restored in the digital world. Audiences can also learn about the history behind the cultural relics, complete virtual restoration tasks and share their restoration work with friends.
Through the “Digital Cat” App powered by the SenseMARS platform, audiences can enter the digital world by touching the NFC chip embedded in the digital art with a mobile phone or a tablet. The virtual “Yangxin Palace” in Forbidden City immediately unfolds to audiences where they can then repaint, color and restore the cultural relics under the guidance of the digital master, creating a seamlessly blending of reality with the virtual world.
Hongwei Zhang, Head of the Forbidden City Publishing House said, “The Palace Museum and its cultural relics present the wisdom of people in ancient China. Through SenseTime’s proprietary AI technologies, we can share treasured Chinese antiques with the public and increase social participation in the protection of cultural heritage.”
The digital art of “Apprentice in the Forbidden City Digital World” is underpinned by SenseMARS software platform, which provides a comprehensive service including minting, certification, authentication, presentation and circulation with SenseTime’s leading AI technologies.

The white paper points out that three core elements are needed to create a digital art model, namely authentic content, creativity and technology. It further merges a deep integration of industry application and digital art creation, following the “practice-based” innovative path.
SenseTime is actively exploring ways to create new experiences by combining intellectual property and technology through its innovative AI + MR technologies powered by SenseMARS platform. The Company will continue increasing the connection among IP, creators and users to further accelerate the digital economy development through a dual construction of “Product Power” and “User Influence”.
